Police believe the body found in Evangeline Parish Tuesday is that of Mickey Shunick. Today, Lafayette Coroner Keith Talamo confirmed that the body is a woman. Since the body was buried for so long they brought in a team to help.
"My office did identify the body. We decided since she was in advance stages of decomposition, we felt it was best to send her to Louisiana FACES Lab," Talamo said.
The FACES lab specializes in skeletal identification, 3-D Modeling, and also search and recovery. During the lab tests, the lab will be able to figure out almost everything that happened to the body.
"We have a body. We're working with law enforcement trying to confirm the identification," Director of LSU FACES Mary Manhein said.
The body will be returned to Lafayette in the next two weeks and full test results will be available in the next three or four. The identity of the body will be known much sooner.
"We'll know if it's Mickey or not with in the next 24 to 48 hours," Talamo said.
