A good chance of showers and storms is expected for Acadiana Wednesday with a weakening cool front that should push into the Gulf of Mexico later this week.
Showers and a few strong storms will be sliding southward across Acadiana Wednesday morning reaching the coast for the afternoon hours. Some storms could be quite strong producing gusty winds, frequent lightning and torrential downpours.
A good soaking is expected for much of the area with rainfall amounts of 1-2" likely in many areas. Isolated higher amounts will be possible where storms repeat over the same areas.
Although there will be the continued risk of scattered storms Thursday, rain chances should decrease dramatically Friday into Saturday.
The aforementioned frontal boundary will sink into and become stationary in the Gulf of Mexico and will likely interact with a tropical disturbance that is expected to advance toward the Yucatan by Thursday.
Parts of this system will get drawn northward toward the Florida Panhandle Friday with wet conditions likely for the Eastern Gulf States and the Southeast U.S. into the weekend.
For Acadiana, this should translate to drier more stable air moving into the region late this week with highs closer to the lower 90s Friday and Saturday with lows dropping to near 70...not exactly cool, but a break from the high August heat.
As for the disturbance in the Caribbean, disorganized showers and storms were increasing across the Northwest Caribbean Tuesday afternoon. This activity is expected to push toward Central America and the Yucatan over the next couple of days with the possibility of weak tropical low pressure developing across the Yucatan Thursday and drifting into the Southern Gulf Friday.
Some slow development will be possible with this system but the bottom line remains that some of the tropical moisture will continue to head toward Mexico this weekend and a large part may be heading for the Northeastern Gulf.
If the system becomes a little more organized increasing conditions for offshore interests will be possible while reinforcing drier northerly winds across Acadiana into the weekend.
