A third marijuana grow has been found in the western area of Vernon Parish. Deputies say the grow was discovered August 1 in a wooded area north of Louisiana Highway 8 and Highway 111, in the Burr Ferry area. The area has been under surveillance until today, at which time the plants were gathered and destroyed.
Deputies say the grow consisted of some 14,800 plants covering an area of approximately two acres. The plants ranged in size from seedlings to in excess of four feet in height. Estimated value of the plants is estimated at $ 22,200,000.00.
Agents believe that as with previous grows in the area this grow is the result of Mexican Nationals. Agents have been diligently processing evidentiary items and submitting them to the Louisiana State Crime Lab for examination.
Through laboratory submittals a suspect has been identified through fingerprint analysis in the case of a previous Marijuana Grow site in the Burr Ferry area and a warrant has been issued for the subject. Additional warrants on other involved persons are expected. The investigation is ongoing.
