Mire convicted of second-degree murder in 2011 shooting

A Vermilion Parish Jury has convicted a man accused of shooting his friend during a hunting trip on second-degree murder charges.

Quintin Mire shot Julian Gajan, Jr., three times with 12-gauge buckshot during the February 2011 excursion. Prosecutors told the jury that Mire shot Gajan because Gajan owed him $1,100 and had not paid him in six months.

Prosecutors also told the jury Mire left Gajan in a Vermilion Parish marsh for three days without telling authorities.

Mire, who was also found guilty of obstruction of justice, faces a mandatory life sentence.
