Summer break is over for another Acadiana Parish. This morning, more than 14,000 students are returning to the classroom in Iberia.
Even though it's Friday, administrators say it's important for students to show up, because it sets the tone and they can make the necessary adjustments, so on Monday everyone can hit the ground running.
A busy summer in Iberia Parish, renovation projects are taking place at seven elementary schools to create a safer more advanced environment for its students.
At North Street, Principal Crystal Arceneaux says the construction can present challenges but it's all worth it in the end.
"A new band room, we have new teacher rest rooms, new students rest rooms, fresh paint on on the walls, new ceilings, new furniture, its been a wonderful addition to our school," said Arceneaux.
The district is also welcoming 150 new teachers.
"I had an opportunity to speak with the group and they seemed excited and ready to start the new school year," said Henderson.
Both Henderson and Arceneaux say their ultimate goal is getting students excited to come to school everyday.
"We want every child to come to school every single day and to have a good experience, that's what school is about. It's a learning opportunity but coming to school is also a growing opportunity," said Henderson.
"Our vision for North Street is to make it a place of excellence. That little warm feeling that comes through your whole body is a great passion that we have and we're looking forward to greeting them and actually having our first full day with them," said Arceneaux.
