A 23-year-old Zachary man is under indictment in the April 15 beating death of his girlfriend's 18-month-old daughter.
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indicted Willie Brent Stone Wednesday on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Azaria Johnson.
Stone, the mother's boyfriend, told first responders he tried to wake the child to dress her but she was unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead at the home.
Coroner Dr. William Clark ruled the toddler died due to blunt-force trauma to the head.
The case has been assigned to state District Judge Tony Marabella.
