Welsh repeals pit bull ban

Pit bulls are no longer prohibited in Welsh.

The town's board of aldermen voted Tuesday night to lift the ban on the breed and replace it with a "dangerous dog" ordinance. According to Bob Owens, the alderman who drafted the ordinance, the new regulations target a dog's actions and not a specific breed.

A dog earns the "dangerous" designation when it bites and injures a human, attacks two animals within a 36-month period, or twice within a 36-month period shows behavior that forces a human to take a defensive action.

Owens says dogs that bite humans will be quarantined for 10 days. Any dog that commits a subsequent offense after receiving the dangerous designation will be put down by authorities.
