Prosecutors have filed a motion to clarify the sentence for an Acadia Parish man sentenced last month on a vehicular homicide charge.
According to court documents, the Fifteenth Judicial District Attorney's Office is asking Judge Ed Rubin to clarify whether Tyson Dupuis is eligible for good time credit. Prosecutors say in the motion that Dupuis should not receive good time because, by law, vehicular homicide is considered a "crime of violence." According to the motion, the court has never discussed the issue of good time credit in connection with this case.
Dupuis was sentenced to 10 years in jail with five years of that sentence being suspended in connection with the death of 18-year-old Michelle Romero. Romero died two days after Dupuis, who was driving drunk, crashed into her vehicle.
The hearing is scheduled for Monday at 9 A. M.
