Lafayette board delays charter decision

The Lafayette Parish School Board will vote at their next meeting on charter schools for the district.
The board discussed several proposals Wednesday night, but did not take a vote.
The board will likely decide Aug. 21 on allowing at least four charter schools for Lafayette, starting with the 2014-15 school year.
Florida-based Charter Schools USA proposed building a K-8 school in northern Lafayette Parish, a K-8 school in the southern part of the parish and a high school. The first school would open in 2014, with others opening in 2015 and 2017.
National Heritage Academies, based in Michigan, proposed building at least one, and possibly two charter schools. They would start with a K-8 school in northern Lafayette.
