LULING, La. (AP) - A St Charles Parish sheriff's deputy died in a multi-vehicle accident in Luling.
The wreck occurred Sunday around 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of La. 52 and Post Drive. The deputy has been identified as 41-year-old Jeff Watson, a 12-year veteran.
State police say Watson was traveling in a marked police car and responding to a call when a pickup pulled out in front of the patrol car. Troopers say Watson swerved to miss the truck, but side-swiped the pickup. The deputy's car then struck a southbound SUV head-on. A motorcycle then struck the SUV.
Watson was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The driver of the SUV was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans with critical injuries. The drivers of the motorcycle and pickup received minor injuries.
