St. Landry board looks at $7.5M surplus

OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The St. Landry Parish School Board is looking forward to a preliminary $7.5 million profit for the 2012-13 school year.

A financial statement introduced at last week's school board finance committee showed a combination of higher-than-expected revenues and lower-than-expected expenditures.

The school board also introduced a proposed budget for the 2013-14 school year, but it quickly became unclear as to whether the finance committee had properly conducted a public hearing at its Wednesday meeting as planned.

The board will hold a public hearing at its Sept. 5 meeting.

The proposed budget estimates $103.3 million in revenues, $111.5 million in expenses and $9.4 million in fund transfers with a net $1.1 million profit.
