Authorities say a 21-year-old man arrested Sunday in a weekend double shooting that left one man dead was free at the time on $80,000 bail awaiting trial in a 2010 slaying.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks says Jarvis McKinley Fleming was arrested in Friday's shooting death of 26-year-old Donald Ray Walls. Hicks said the shooting was allegedly the result of a drug deal gone bad.
Fleming was booked with first-degree murder and tampering with an electronic monitor.
At the time of the shooting, Fleming was free on the $80,000 bail and awaiting trial on a second-degree murder charge in the 2010 shooting death of 23-year-old Daniel Smith. Baton Rouge police have said that shooting also was related to drugs.
