A St Charles Parish sheriff's deputy died in a multi-vehicle accident in Luling.
The wreck occurred Sunday around 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of Paul Maillard Road and Post Drive. The deputy has been identified as Jeff Watson, a 12-year veteran.
State police say Watson was traveling in a marked police car and responding to a call.
Troopers say a pickup pulled out in front of Watson, who swerved to miss truck, but side-swiped the pickup. The deputy's car then struck a southbound SUV, head-on. The SUV then struck a motorcycle
Watson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans with critical injuries. The drivers of the motorcycle and pickup received minor injuries.
