The Terrebonne Parish Council has approved an incentive package in an effort to spark development of much-needed rental housing at low rates in Houma.
The parish will offer the selected developer a $5.7 million to build a multifamily complex for lower-income renters.
Households earning less than 80 percent of the area's median income could qualify for the housing, which will be subsidized through a Community Development Block Grant.
New Orleans-based consultant GCR Inc. is reviewing development proposals.
Developers must demonstrate previous experience in similar projects. The location of the complex must be near public transportation.
