A Carencro man is behind bars after allegedly raping a child under the age of 12. Lafayette Parish Deputies located 59-year-old Thomas Hargis Saturday at a Lafayette business. Deputies say they were able to confirm that Hargis and the juvenile victim were known to each other, but did not describe the nature of the relationship to protect the identity of the victim. Deputies believe the incident happened around July 30th. Hargis is due to appear in court on August 6th and is being charged with one count of aggravated rape.
