LPSS: School board counsel plans to retire

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Lafayette Parish School Board will lose its counsel when Assistant District Attorney James Simon retired on Sept. 1.

The Advocate reports that Simon informed the School Board on Thursday of his decision to retire.

While the board hires lawyers for litigation, the district attorney's office provides legal support on day-to-day business or issues that may pop up during board meetings.

District Attorney Mike Harson says he expects to have a replacement for Simon by the time the board meets on Sept. 4.
