Earlier this year we were commenting on how cool it had stayed for so long. Half way through May and temperatures hadn't even hit 90 degrees. Summer took its time setting in, and for the most part temperatures have hovered around normal. Now in the beginning of August I could sure go for some of those 80 degree May days.
A massive ridge of high pressure has built up over Texas, and as a result temperatures have been on the rise. Although thermometer readings have only been a few degrees above normal, the heat index has been doing the damage. Triple digit feel like temperatures have been with us for several days now, and there is little relief in sight. High humidity has even prevented a cool down out night, the low on Friday morning was 80.
Dewpoints have been oppressive and for the most part even hours after the sun goes down it still feels like its in the 90s outside. Times like these make you thankful for air conditioning. Of course with all this heat comes the possibility of pop up showers.
Most showers will be south of I-10 and remain very isolated, which is frustrating since areas with rain will have a chance to cool down slightly. Sunday looks very summery indeed with very little change from what we've seen over the last few days.
During the work week, conditions might start to improve slightly as showers could become more numerous. Temperatures will also dip slightly, but rest assured it will still be hot.
