The hottest wave of weather & highest humidity of the summer will extend into this weekend for Acadiana as daytime highs climb well into the mid-90s.
Dew points in the mid-upper 70s have been leading to oppressive conditions with heat indices (or "feels like" temperatures) Thursday & Friday topping out in the 105-108 degree range.
Once the heat index rises above 105F heat cramps and heat related illnesses become much more likely in a shorter period of time when outdoors.
More of the same is expected this weekend so follow some cooling tips such as slowing down, dress in light color, cotton fabrics, eat less/lighter meals, stay hydrated and out of the sun as much as possible.
The best way to beat the heat is to stay indoors in an air-conditioned environment. As always, check on the kids and elderly as they are most prone to the heat.
The risk of any cooling showers this weekend will stay low, but models are beginning to suggest that deeper tropical moisture, along with a slightly better chance of afternoon storms could be in store for Acadiana later next week.
