Shooting, kidnapping suspect arrested near Krotz Springs

Area law enforcement arrested a man today following a two-hour search and short pursuit. East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Detectives will charge the man for kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and shooting her boyfriend.

Norman Gibson Jr., 33, of 4958 Erwinville, La. will be charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and Second Degree Kidnapping.

EBRSO deputies responded to reports of a shooting today at 1:00 p.m. in the 1400 block of Jasper Avenue. According to reports, Gibson allegedly went to his ex-girlfriend's residence and shot her new boyfriend. He then allegedly took his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint to his vehicle and fled the area. The male victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Witnesses identified the suspect, and detectives coordinated with area law enforcement to locate the suspect.

Louisiana State Troopers spotted Gibson while traveling in St. Landry Parish. Following a brief pursuit, law enforcement stopped Gibson at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Highway 190 in Krotz Springs, La. The female victim was located in good health, and Gibson was booked as a Fugitive from EBRSO in St. Landry Parish Prison. Gibson will be transported to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison to be booked on the above counts.

Louisiana State Police, West Baton Rouge Sheriff's office, Point Coupee Sheriff's Office, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, Livonia Police Department, Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office, Addis Police Department, Brusly Police Department and other area law enforcement agencies assisted in locating Gibson.
