OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The St. Landry Parish School Board will wait until after a Sept. 5 public hearing before voting on a proposed 2013-14 general fund budget.
Board attorney Gerard Caswell told the board Thursday he was not sure if a public hearing on the $103 million budget occurred Wednesday at a Finance Committee meeting.
Caswell said he reviewed the Finance Committee's report from the meeting and there was no mention of a public hearing being held.
Finance Committee Chairman Raymond Cassimere said a hearing on the proposed budget occurred at Wednesday's meeting even if the item was not reflected in the committee report.
Board President Harry Fruge said such public hearings provide opportunities for public input before the board discusses and takes action on a budget.
