Acadiana's heat over the next week will likely match or exceed the highest readings so far this summer.
So far this summer there have been only five 95+ degree days in Lafayette, three in June (two 96's and one 95) and only two 95 degree days in July.
A large ridge of high pressure centered over Texas will expand eastward through the weekend insuring Acadiana's daytime highs stay in the 94-97 degree range each day while heat indices approach the 105-108 degree range.
Temperatures in northern portions of Acadiana through the central and northwestern part of the state will get very close to triple digits over the next several days.
Rain chances on any given day through next week will stay in the 10% range or less.
Prospects for better rain chances may improve next weekend as a frontal trough approaches. But until then it will likely stay dry and start to get dusty across the region.
The tropics remain quiet in the Atlantic Basin other than the remnants of Dorian combining with an upper level low over the Bahamas. This feature will drift northward and will not threaten the Gulf of Mexico. Further development of this system, while possible, appears unlikely at this time.
