Residents in Eunice are frustrated with the DOTD over a road project no one has touched in months.
The state began construction on LA-755, also known as College Road back in February. DOTD eventually halted construction on the road after crews hit a sewer line. The department says they've fixed the sewer line, but they haven't finished the project because the city wants several upgrades done before the state finishes.
DOTD Public Information Officer, Deidra Lockhart, says the hold-up now is negotiations between the state and the city. Lockhart says, talks will allow officials to figure out if the state will upgrade the sewer. DOTD is also hoping to give the road to the city of Eunice for future upkeep.
"The program involves transferring these roads in good condition to local governments who chose to participate," says Lockhart.
For Crystal Broussard, the road has been a nightmare since construction started. "The bus won't come around to get our kids. We have to literally drive them all the way around the block until we get past the barricades," says Broussard.
Broussard's husband is a diabetic, and with the road being out, she says it could mean the difference between life or death. "If they were to have a medical emergency the ambulance would have trouble getting to us," says Broussard.
There is no estimated timetable on when a decision on who is responsible for what will be made.
