NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal judge has set a new trial date for a Mississippi man charged with shooting at three men in what prosecutors call a racially motivated attack in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
Roland Bourgeois' trial has been postponed 12 times in nearly three years due to questions about his mental competency. On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon scheduled it to start on Nov. 18.
Prosecutors say Bourgeois, who is white, wounded at least one of the three black men he shot at following the 2005 storm. Bourgeois lived in Columbia, Miss., at the time of his 2010 indictment.
