LAFAYETTE - A Lafayette slow pitch softball team captured the PONY (Protect Our Nation's Youth) world series this week, held in White Settlement, TX.
Team Final Destination, made up of players sixteen and under, won a qualifying round in Lake Charles to advance to the world series in Texas, where they emerged victorious after three days of competition.
The PONY league chose one Final Destination team member, Briana Zehner, for special recognition. She was recognized for her efforts and overall positive contribution to the team. Her jersey will be retired in the PONY Hall of Fame in Washington, DC.
