A Teurlings Catholic High School graduate serving in Afghanistan is recovering in Germany after being shot during an insurgent attack last weekend.
Lafayette native Eric Iorio was shot in the elbow and the lower leg Sunday when the Taliban attacked his unit. He was transported to Germany after the attack. He will later be airlifted to Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, to undergo reconstructive surgery on his elbow.
Iorio is a member of the 101st Airborne 506 Infantry Band of Brothers. He went through basic training last November and was later stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was sent to Afghanistan on June 7.
