Vandalism probe begins at Atchafalaya WMA

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State wildlife and fisheries officials and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office are investigating two acts of vandalism on the Atchafalaya Delta Wildlife Management Area.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said Monday that a bulldozer and utility vehicle was noticed missing from Big Island on July 24. Staff found the equipment later that evening on Big Island - the bulldozer buried in mud and the vehicle stuck in a ditch.

The equipment was vandalized sometime between July 19, when it was last seen, and the day it was found.

LDWF is offering up to a $1,000 reward for anybody with information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Tips or leads can be given through the department's toll free hotline, 1-800-442-2511.
