LCG budget hearings start today in Lafayette Parish and some elected officials are butting heads over the 2014 proposed budget. City-parish President Joey Durel wants to take $6 million from the Lafayette Parish roads, bridges and drainage taxes.
That money would be used to pay the parish's portion of operating costs for LCG. Taking that $6 million away from the parish, would affect future public works projects in the unincorporated areas of the parish.
Items on the agenda today up for discussion are firefighters, police, public works and capital and traffic & transportation.
August 29th there will be a public hearing for residents input on the budget.
Also today's hearing is open to the pubic at the city-parish council auditorium.
It starts at 1p.m.
