Two pitches for renovating a landmark office tower on the New Orleans riverfront - and one for demolishing it - are about to get a public airing at City Hall.
At issue Tuesday will be what to do with the building that once was headquarters for New Orleans' World Trade Center. It's vacant now and taking up prime real estate near the French Quarter.
Gatehouse Capital Corp. and James H. Burch LLC have made proposals to renovate and re-use the tower. Both proposals include hotel and residential plans and revival of a once-popular revolving rooftop restaurant and bar.
A group known as Tricentennial Consortium wants to demolish the 1960s-era building and replace it with some sort of new structure that will be designed as a symbolic landmark.
