It may be cliche, but sometimes laughter is, in fact, the best medicine.

"Why am I going to get down about something that has a 95% cure rate, ya know it's kind of funny."

27-year-old Ryan West was diagnosed in June with testicular cancer. Although, at first, West and fiance Sara Landry thought it was a simple injury.

"We initially thought it was a bruise from our dog hitting him and then this came about so there was kind of a humorous start to the whole thing," says Landry.

West underwent surgery to remove a tumor. Doctors discovered the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes in his stomach.

"We never planned to have any sort of medical expenses this fast and this grand."

"Everyone has their own set of skills, mine is online and social media, so I thought if this is the tool that I got maybe it can help them out."

Friend and Lafayette resident Adam Chapman started a fund raising campaign through indiegogo dot com. The original goal of $8,000 was met the first day.

"I can't decide if I'm surprised or not. I knew it would work, I didn't think it would work that fast and I didn't think it would go as far."

Donations have poured in from friends and strangers alike. West and Landry couldn't be more grateful.

The campaign will end August 4.  Depending on how much is raised, West and Landry plan to donate any excess funds to charity.
