After winning their state title, Lafayette Little League will make another run at the World Series at the Junior League level when they travel to New Mexico for the Southwest Regionals.
On July 24, 2013, Lafayette Little League won the 2013 Louisiana Junior League State Championship, scoring 56 runs and only allowing four. They now go on to compete with other state champion teams from the Southwest Region in New Mexico, with the winner advancing to the World Series.
The 33rd annual Junior League Baseball World Series will be played August 11-17, 2013 at World Series Field in Heritage Park in Taylor, Michigan.
In 2011, members of the All-Star team competed in the 65th annual Little League® Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania after winning their district, state, and regional titles. They went on to play in five nationally televised games on ESPN. Their biggest win in the Series came against Warner Robbins, Georgia. The team returned home ranked as one of the top 16 teams in the world and one of the top eight in the country.
To defer the costs of travel and expenses for competing in the Southwest Regionals, the team will be hosting a fundraising expo on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 6:00PM at Lafayette Little League Park, 601 Broadmoor Blvd., Lafayette, LA. Members of the general public are invited to spectate, partake in available concessions, and make donations if they feel inclined.
More than 800 youth annually participate in both the Spring and Fall Seasons of Lafayette Little League, with participants attending nearly every public and private school within the city, including Lafayette, Youngsville, Scott, and Broussard. Lafayette Little League is a self-sustaining organization that receives no money from the city. All equipment, field maintenance, uniforms and facility.
