Caddo coroner rules toddler's death accidental

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Caddo Parish coroner has ruled the death of the 3-year-old girl who was left in the backseat of a car nearly 19 hours was an accident.

The Times reports
Dr. Todd Thoma said in a news release the cause of death was a heatstroke, secondary to vehicular hyperthermia.

Shreveport police received a 911 call from the girl's mother about 4:30 p.m. July 5. The woman, who has two other children, told authorities she found Sariah Delafosse in the sweltering vehicle as she was leaving for work.

Krystal Delafosse picked her toddler up from the child's father's house the night prior. Police later learned the woman left the car windows rolled up and the girl may have been in the car since 9 p.m. July 4.
