Jury finds man guilty in Baker slayings

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A jury deliberated less than an hour before finding a man guilty on two counts of second-degree murder in the 2012 shooting deaths of his estranged wife and her male friend at the friend's home in Baker.

The Advocate reports an East Baton Rouge Parish jury of seven women and five men convicted 49-year-old Alfred Scales, of Baker, on Thursday in the deaths of 33-year-old Jamie "Chloe" Davenport and 44-year-old James Ledell Brown Sr. on May 25, 2012.

State District Judge Lou Daniel ordered a presentence investigation and also ordered Scales held without bond until he is sentenced Sept. 27. He faces a mandatory term of life in prison.

Davenport was shot four times; Brown was shot once.
