Acadiana celebrated "Christmas Eve in July" with the help of Lafayette Coca-Cola on Wednesday night at Fabacher Field. Fans were treated to a stocking full of fun including a between-innings game of white elephant, a visit from St. Nick himself, and seasonal music that moved even the most begrudging of Scrooges.
The Cane Cutters found themselves down early as they trailed 1-0 after two frames. It took until the third inning to finally get things started for the home team. Chance Vincent lead things off right with a single. Then, Jordie Hein reached first on an error by the pitcher, moving Vincent into scoring position. Catcher Mitchell Nau then stepped up to the plate hitting a sacrifice fly that scored Vincent, tying the game up at one a-piece.
The bottom of the fourth began off with singles from Connor Barron and Nathan Pugh. Things snowballed quickly from there. LSU Tiger Chris Sciambra gave the Cutters a two-run lead when he laced a 2-RBI double in the gap. The Cutters tacked on more with another run in the fifth on a Mitchell Nau solo blast, making the score 4-1. The score remained unchanged until the bottom of the seventh, when the Cutters added three more by virtue Connor Barron 2-RBI single that chased home both Hein and Vincent. First baseman Nathan Pugh would soon send Barron home with an RBI double of his own. Acadiana would go on to wrap things up and place it under the tree as a 7-1 victory.
Pitcher Justin Sinibaldi was the starting hurler for Acadiana this evening. He would go on to earn the win, throwing 7 innings, giving up just one run on 6 hits, while striking out 4.
