Abbeville police are handing out tickets to people who are slabbing - slang for wearing baggy, low-hanging pants exposing underwear or skin. The first ticket costs $50, and if the offender's citation goes unpaid and doesn't appear in court, the slabber will receive an additional $150 fine. The department has issued at least 10 tickets in recent weeks.
The city of Abbeville passed a saggy pants ordinance in 2007. Last month, the Vermilion Parish Police Jury passed an ordinance making saggy pants illegal in the parish.
