Mother nature is doing a good job reminding everyone that we are in the middle of summer by cranking up the heat across south Louisiana. Mercury in the thermometer will be racing up into the mid 90s for the remainder of the work week, and the heat index will be higher then that.
Humidity will be rather high as well which will push that feel like temperature into the triple digits. Skies will stay mostly clear so clouds will provide virtually no relief from the heat, and rain chances are slim at best so the afternoon rain won't be around to help cool things either.
Isolated showers are possible, as they typically are this time of year, but any activity will remain south of the interstate and hugging the coastal parishes. Better rain chances are moving in for the weekend, and as the week comes to a close better details on that rain will begin to emerge.
Taking a glance toward the tropics we have our fourth named storm of the season with Tropical Storm Dorian. Models generally in good agreement on a progressive westward track over the Atlantic, and approaching the north Caribbean at the beginning of next week. It will remain tropical storm strength through the next five days, but could approach hurricane status as it gets to some warmer water. Models are hinting on a northward curve up the Atlantic coast and out of the Gulf of Mexico. Over the next few days, however, we will keep a close eye on it as it will certainly be close to the Gulf.
