The Lafayette City-Parish council voted Tuesday night to finalize the acquisition of the UL horse farm.
In the deal, LCG will pay $6-million to UL for the land and also give the university Youth Park on Johnston Street.
"It's amazing, it's kind of like the best day over the past 7 years," said Elizabeth "EB" Brooks with the Save the Horse Farm organization.
Next up, LCG will be working with the Community Foundation of Acadiana to finalize terms of a cooperative endeavor agreement to pay for the perpetual maintenance of the park.
"I think those discussions are going to begin and essentially, they'll figure out what kind of management structures, fund raising strategies, community engagement strategies they'll use to figure out where it's going to go from here," said Brooks.
